Reflections for Detective Anthony Standley

Tony was an amazing officer and colleague. I still to this day talk about the first time I met him when he assisted on a chaotic day on the beach. It was so stressful and a lot of different events took place at one time, but he was my back - and when he first met me he asked if I wanted a BBQ plate. I laugh, because under the circumstances he didn't realize how calming it was - and that it was probably my second day on the job. Later on we ended up working together through neighboring agencies. I could not wait until we had the same shifts at Pier 30 and we would just always have a great time or when we worked nights and would meet at Buc-ee's. Tony always made it fun despite whatever situation we had!

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Heavenly Father, You commit to us the swift and solemn trust of life: since we know not what a day may bring forth, but only that the hour for serving You is always present, may we wake to the instant claims of Your will upon our lives. In the face of questions without answers, of dreams unfulfilled, of the emptiness that will not go away, we are only compelled to thank You always for lives faithfully lived, for good memories and living hopes. We are reminded as we pray for family and friends who are touched with the feeling of sorrow, that we pray to one who does not let go unnoticed even the falling of a sparrow to earth. We pray to one who weeps for his world, and therefore we come trusting that in life or death, we may find rest and comfort in Him. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen
