HI, Lorraine and Doris Jane. I am told this is a relative of mine. He is my great-great uncle. His nephew was born two years later and named after him. This Edward Burns is my Grandfather. My Grandfather's father was named Elijah and would've been PO Burns' brother. Elijah served in the Spanish-American war and died around that time. He's buried in Oakland Cemetery. My middle name is Edward and it goes all the way back to PO Burns as my Grandfather was named after him. My uncle Allen told me all this and he still lives in Yonkers. Does any of this sound familiar? I've met no other Burns I am related to and would like to learn some family history. What was Elijah and Edward's fathers name? I have more questions but they are not for here. I've lived in the vicinity of Untermeyer Park and have visited this monument many times. Please contact me. Thanks

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 109th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I never knew my great grandfather, but my great grandmother( his wife) was the most dear and precious relative one could have ever had, My grandson and I were talking about his desire to become a police officer and I told him about his great-great-great grandfather. I hope he carries on the family tradition of serving in law enforcement.

I agree with a previous writer who wrote “No officer’s death should be without reflection.” It is an honor to be the first to leave a reflection in your memory. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever.
