Lord God, I thank You for the grace of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, through which I pray to You in this dark hour. A life has been torn from us. Expectations the years once held, have vanished. The mystery of death has stricken us. O God, You know the lives we live and the deaths we die — woven so strangely of purpose and of chance, of reason and of the irrational, of strength and of frailty, of happiness and of pain. Into Your hands I commend the soul of Trooper Micah May of the Nevada Highway Patrol. No mortal life You have made is without eternal meaning. No earthly fate is beyond Your redeeming. Through Your grace that can do far more than we can think or imagine, fulfill in Trooper Micah May Your purpose that reaches beyond time and death. Lead Trooper Micah May from strength to strength, and fit Trooper Micah May for love and service in Your kingdom. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

In the words of the PA State Police Call of Honor, This Trooper laid down his life as others have done before him, rather than swerve from the path of duty. Rest in peace brother and be sure that those still here will carry on in your honor. May there be peace for your family through this time. Your sacrifice will be remembered by those who follow.

Our thoughts and prayers from Florida for Trooper Micah May, his wife and loved ones, as well as the members of the Nevada Highway Patrol. Trooper May was in harm's way protecting those who were not able to protect themselves. His sacrafices over the past 13 years to provide for a safer community will not be forgotten. His loss is tragic and felt well beyond the borders of Nevada. Trooper May is a true hero and his family will always be ours.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
