Just a great guy hands down. He passed away the way he wanted to and that’s by saving someone else’s life. Three people are still alive because of what he and his partner did. Rest In Peace , Brother. We’ll miss you!

Little can be said to explain just how good of a man Bill was. An absolute hero that would have been proud to pass the way he unfortunately did. We all will miss you forever!

This man constantly shared officers lost in the line of duty on his social media. He walked the walk and talked the talked of the definition of a true police officer. This lost will be felt locally for a long time

I didn't know Bill, but I know some great men who knew and respected him well. Those men are reeling from a tremendous loss, and the sense of their pain conveys what Deputy Smith meant to the people who knew him. Rest easy, sir. Peace and healing to those suffering from his loss.

Heavenly Father, the sudden and tragic death of Deputy Sheriff William H. Smith, of the Baldwin County AL Sheriff’s Office, in the Line-of-Duty, has filled our Law Enforcement family’s eyes with tears and our hearts with sorrow. We are distressed by the mysteries of Your Providence. As Your child we want so much to say, “Not my will, but Your will be done,” but at times we find it difficult to do. Forgive us and help us. We pray by Your Holy Spirit, to accept Your ways as always best. Apply to these wounded hearts the healing touch of Your precious promises, and let them soon experience its power. Teach us not to mourn as those who have no hope. Wipe away the tears from our eyes that we may be able to see through the mist, beyond death and the grave, to the Resurrection and Life assured by the glorious victory of our Savior Jesus Christ over death and the grave. May the passing of Deputy Sheriff William H. Smith remind us that we, too, are but pilgrims and strangers on earth. Grant us the grace to love less and less the things that are material and temporal, and to love more and more the things that are spiritual and eternal. Teach us to number our days and to apply our heart to the wisdom taught by Jesus Christ, that He is the Way and the Truth and the Life, and that no one comes to You, O God, but by Him. In the Holy Name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
During His three (3) year ministry, the Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

You were a great man and friend. A selfless person who loved his community and his country. We all are in shock at your loss. Your most selfless act came with sacrificing your life to save a complete stranger in distress. To call you a hero is inadequate as you were more than that. Your family misses you! Your colleagues miss you! The community misses you! You died doing what you loved! I thank God for people like you!
Until we meet again my friend...

Wild Bill taught many officers many things over the years. He taught me how being poised and having compassion are very important traits for an instructor. He practiced this at every level himself. He will always be remembered.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
