It’s so easy to forget that patrol only deals with these people for minutes to hours, correctional officers deal with them for days, weeks, months, years. And to lose one to something like this is heartbreaking. A life taken away for nothing. Sad, sad day... R.I.P

On behalf of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office in Klamath Falls, Oregon, we send our sincerest sympathy in the recent losses of your Correctional Officer, Robert McFarland and Nurse Lorena Schulte, from complications of an attack by inmates on an attempted prison escape. It is always a huge loss when a fellow Correctional Officer and a Nurse succumbs from injuries during an attempted prison escape. With the bravery and courage of both of them to protect and serve your community, their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Our prayers and thoughts to the other Nurse that was taken as a hostage for a safe and speedy recovery. Our prayers and thoughts also to the Ely Volunteer Fire department where Correctional Officer McFarland also served as a volunteer.
