Reflections for Police Officer Eric Huston Talley
A BENEDICTION TO OUR FALLEN OFFICER ERIC TALLEY
We are in this place again--in need of God's Amazing Grace.
This time--remembering our fallen Officer Eric Talley and his service.
Today, we are bonded together by grief and gratitude
as we give our highest respect to his life and "sacred honor."
Thank you, Officer Talley, for being first to answer the call
You took the bullet, saving others in hatred's way.
You left a courageous legacy of public safety and community trust--
we see your beauty from ashes--we must, we must--salute you!
Thank you, Officer Talley, for serving and protecting our Boulder community;
however, your End of Watch came much too early.
Your family and friends, even strangers, cherish your name
and memories of your life.
We will always respect your "sacred honor" through your ultimate sacrifice.
Although the legacy of your dreams and stories was cut short,
we will carry on your legacy--it is the essence of your courage.
Our very souls are wounded by the loss of America's best.
May your family and friends find rest as daylight fades in the West.
Our Father in Heaven....
Help us we pray, as we rely on Your strong promise--
a promise that Your plans are good, giving us hope and a future.
Somehow, somehow--may we awaken with morning joy,
as we trust in You to see another sunrise.
We thank You for your gift of love--knowing your Son gave his life.
We confidently call on your name--knowing Your divine love pursues us.
Amen.
May Almighty God comfort us as we say farewell to our faithful
Law Enforcement champion Eric Talley, who served fearlessly.
We will hold him close in our hearts.
Without a doubt he will be greatly missed.
The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace. Amen.

Officer Talley, your death has resonated in my life a couple of ways. First, my daughter was a frequent customer of that market, living about 1000 feet away from it, for her senior year at C.U. Next, among my team of officers is your classmate, G.Y. She is beside herself at your loss. You had her respect. I've learned a bit about you and know that I've missed out on knowing one fine human being.
May your family, friends and coworkers be comforted by your memory.
I pray we can follow your example of courage, should we ever find ourselves similarly challenged.
Thank you for your service to the people of Boulder and to the state of Colorado. May our Heavenly Father grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Officer Talley demonstrated the kind of courage and committment police officers are expected to possess during critical and life threatening incidents as they run to the gunfire when everyone else's instinct is to run from it or hide until it stops. This kind grit and sacrifice is truly rare in a Country of 330 million people but I know about a million law enforcement officers who signed up for and are willing live up to that standard. Officer Talley answered that call without hesitation and was willing to put his life into harms way so that others might live. That is a big part of what being a cop is about and tells the true narrative of our nation's law enforcement profession.
My heartfelt condolences to the Talley Family, the Boulder PD Family, and the Community of Boulder especially those who were also murdered during this senseless shooting. May God bring his peace and comfort to all who have suffered and may our prayers and thoughts help during this most darkest moment.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln
