Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Mitchell Aaron Penton

I recently met your parents at my sons Foundation Fundraiser at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Our son was killed by a drunk driver while he was on patrol in Chicago 20 years ago. Our solace was the driver was also killed and we did not have to go through the agonizing court appearances. Your parents are walking in our shoes and live every day without you. Parents are not suppose to outlive their children. Wrap your wings around them and comfort them and protect them. You will never be forgotten as true heroes never die.

A week ago today, the man who took you from us was sentenced. So many people worked so very hard to get justice for you. Your friends, family, DPD Officers, Detectives, Class 365 classmates, and incredible prosecutors fought for you. We remembered you, told the story about you that night, what you did, who you are and how you loved you job, and family.

I miss you more every day, I love you, and will keep your memory alive, till I take my last breath.

This past week, numerous people, who worked very hard, took the stand to testify about the night you were taken from us. People who never knew you, officers who worked with you, officers who didn’t, and your family and friends who love and miss you every day, to hold the man accountable. We won, convicted and sentenced to 30 years. Forever wouldn’t be enough, we love and miss you, always and forever!
