Reflections for Sergeant Roy Arthur Williams

Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

It's a few days away from the 26th anniversary. I can't believe you've been gone so long. Your newest grandbaby will be born in 2 months. I really wish you were here to meet her and all of your other grandbabies. You would have been a wonderful grandpa and I'm truly sorry none of them had the chance to know you.
I love you and miss you every single day.

Time moves forward but your loss is still felt. Especially around holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. I so wish Annabelle had had the opportunity to know you. She talks about you and other relatives who have moved on but I see her in you more each day. You'd be proud of your granddaughter. She's a tough cookie even at five. Love you for ever daddy.

The Sheriffs of Florida and their deputies will never forget the sacrifice you and your family made to uphold our laws and protect society.

Your name has been inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs and the National Law Enforcement Memorial and in our hearts. May you forever rest in peace.

A scripture inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs Law Enforcement Memorial:

"Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children
of God." Matthew 5:9

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Rest in peace Sergeant.

Inv. Michael Walker
Tallahassee Police Department

Even though I was only 8 years old when my father died, I know he was a great man. Everything he did was for his family and community. He wanted to make collier county as safe as he could for his children and future grandchildren.

Saundra

My father was a brave man, everyday he left home to protect everyone else.Knowing his family would be there at the end of his shift.
We lost our father ten years ago this year and I look at all he has missed and wished he could be here for and know in my heart there are others that feel the same way I do.
My father gave his life to the community he swore to protect and I love him for this. I just wish he had got to enjoy his 3 grandaughters and his grandson before he was taken from us.
I know my father would have regret sitting behind a desk if he had not died that night. He was always the one to step in the middle of any problem and try to solve it.
I love my father and miss him dearly.
