He’s Not Heavy, He’s My Brother

They say the fear of death follows from the fear of life. I know a man who did not fear life, and I know a world that needed him. That man died tonight, but we shall never forget him. Bill was a true hero. He had a moral compass, a heart, a family and lived a life of service to his citizens. You would do well to take note of his life, for he lived as we all should. He contributed to our world and added to our value as a society.

He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, had an undying love for cars and was a great conversationalist. He kept the cleanest cruiser in the tri-county area. He, James Davis and I spoke at length on many a long night about many an issue. His sense of humor was unique and he could deliver one-liners like no other.

God bless his family and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and keep them during this time. Bill has laid his burdens down, and we will carry them on for our fallen brother.

Let us remember him well, let us speak his name with honor. He’s Not Heavy, He’s My Brother.

Rest easy 635, we have the watch. You, sir, are relieved.

Officer Rick Carter
Royston Police Department
