Grandpa, You are my hero. From the stories of your bravery in the line of duty to the love you showed every day for your family. Letting mom stand on your toes and dancing with her, whistling throughout your day, bringing joy into others lives with your sence of humor yet caring for your community and serving and respecting your community. You are sorely missed in this confusing crazy world each day. I love you and am honored to be your granddaughter.

As a daughter of Leonard Bulman’s daughter, I have listened intently to my Mother’s fond recollections of her Dad. I’ve read several articles that honor his memory as a peace officer. I am proud and grateful for his example, his honorable legacy as a guardian of the people, his love of family and the goodness of his character.

I was 10 years old when Sheriff Bulman was shot and killed. I knew him and his wife as friends of my parents, Sheriff Arthur (Art or AJ) and Lucille Kutschat from West Union. Sheriff Bulman and my Dad were social as well as professional friends. My Dad was called and responded to the scene in Postville.

I am proud to have been named after this honorable man. My Grandfather died before I was born however he inspired me in many ways. I have a deep admiration for those willing to put themselves in harms way for the good of others.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 66th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 66 years.
