In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I’ve worked with Sgt. Dale Multer for 17 years. He was an outstanding officer. I knew if I ever needed help with anything he was always there for me. We’ve always worked well together. The Family unit was always close to our heart. He was a great Deputy then became Sgt. We shared and learned from each other’s experience. I will always be grateful we crossed paths in this life. Thank you Sgt Multer for your outstanding service. You will be truly missed.

Thank Sgt for always being there. Even when we disagreed we remained friends and loyal to each other and the mission. You were my first mentor and FTO before becoming Sgt. I will always remember working with you on and off duty. Sharing the war stories and the great accomplishments you have done in your career. You were always dependable and a phone call away. Thank you for being you. Father, Cop, and faithful public servant!

What can I say about Sgt. Multer? He was a my trainer wen I became a Constable...ever so patient, caring, knowledgeable and humble. When I saw him around the office he wore a smile, often times he had several things going on, but he always had time for me. Every time I called he picked up! I would stop and get him a cupcake for his birthday every year. My last job working with him was security overnight at the St. John's testing site. He stayed and talked to me and Deputy Eller to make sure we were good. He was a good supervisor, and a good man! Coincidentally, we spoke about this pandemic and how careful we were to not get infected. I know he was a man of faith, so to be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord!, which makes me happy. To all those he touched here, rather you are a boy scout or a Deputy, maybe even a victim or citizen he helped out, he will definitely be missed. I will remember everything you taught me. Good bye Sarge, goodbye Friend, Goodbye Brother!

Even though the time has come to end the watch, they are still watching. Even though they are no longer with us, they are still teaching. The loss is new and the pain is great but we carry on for our family’s sake. Give us the keys, we’ll take over from here. Now is the time to release your fears. We got your watch, we’ll carry on, rest with peace my brother for your never really gone.
