Reflections for Police Officer Dale Thomas Provins, Jr.
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

I am saddened over his loss: I wrote the following poem and hope it helps.
Life's too precious;
it disappears as a vapor;
You see it for a moment,
then it disappears out of sight.
Keeping your eyes on the prize,
pay homage to God,
the keeper of your soul,
praying day and night.
Then comes that knock on your door
bringing you to your knees,
"Your loved one has been called home."
You're shaken to your core;
God's earthly angels wrap
their loving arms about you,
compassionately consoling you
in your hours of agony and despair.
This distraught seems more than you can bare.
Did I tell them I loved them? Time stands still.
The smallest sparrow does not fall to the earth without God's knowledge.

Psalms 56:8 (NLT) New Living Translation: You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (KJV) King James Version: Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted by God.
Matthew 10:28-30 (KJV) King James Version: Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father
