Reflections for Police Officer Cody Nathaniel Holte

Lt Holte was my Lieutenant in the army. Almost 7 years after my service ended and 4 years since he passed I found myself telling his story to my wife and son today. LT Holte was a phenomenal leader, a great role model and someone you want to follow. I miss you LT.

I asked my anti-police supervisor if she knew the name, Nathaniel Holte. She said she never heard of him. I asked her why not and she didn't respond. When she did ask me who he was, I told her to look his name up and then asked her to ask herself, "why don't I know his name, but I know the names of people who have been killed by the police?"
Nathaniel Holte was related to my wife's family-and I know his name and I will never forget.

Cody, you are a true hero, and all I can say is thank you. Thank you for being a part of my law enforcement career from the beginning. Thank you for the motivation to keep going through the academy. Thank you for your infectious smile during briefings. Thank you for being by my side on some of my toughest days. And, most importantly, thank you for allowing me to be your friend. The character you exhibited daily, and the kindness and compassion that you showed others is what we all strive for. Our department may never be the same, but we are all extremely grateful to have known you.

My thoughts and prayers are with your wife, son, brother, and the rest of your family. We will always have their back, and I know that you will always have ours.

Rest easy brother, we've got it from here.

Your favorite Bible scripture was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things, through Christ, who gives me strength.” You wore this pendant around your neck every day. It takes strength and courage to enter a shooting where the shooter has an AK-47 and you bravely run towards danger and assist your fellow officers. You paid the ultimate price. The Bible also says, “There is no greater love than this, that one would lay down his life to save others.” Cody, you are a hero.

God has already welcomed you but it was much sooner than it should have been. May He watch over your family and give them the strength they need during this terrible time.

Thank you for your military service and for protecting your city. My heart breaks for your family but I know they are very proud of you and what you stand for. May you rest in peace.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.
