So many years have passed my brother, and you are always remembered as a true hero. I am proud to have been assigned to the 34th precinct, and while there, your memory was and always be honored by all who enter it. May your family be always blessed and that you continue to watch over them and the NYPD. Until the day we meet.

I said a little prayer today for Police Officer Buczek and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Michael Buczek was a terrific cop and a great friend. Michael was the most active officer I knew. He had an uncanny ability to ferret out criminal activity and the courage to place himself in harm's way in order to protect the public. As your field training sergeant I fondly recall your exploits as a rookie officer. I want you to know that we miss you dearly and pray for you frequently.

Officer Buczek, I was moved to come visit here after reading about you in "Brave Hearts." Thank you for all you did for your community. I am so sorry that you were lost doing your job to protect. I know your family misses their hero.

Mike,
Your brother Walt and I went to college together. I remember playing football against you when you were at Ramapo - you were pretty tough!
Walt was very proud of you, to say the least.
I started as a fed around the time you began the academy. I thought our paths would eventually cross when I started doing drug work in Philly and New York. I am very sorry I didn't get to see you again.
I retire soon from law enforcement, but will keep you in my thoughts.

I didn't know PO Buczuk but we were in same academy class in 1985. It was a class of 1,400 officers. I worked with Chris Hoban in the 88 PCT. I was working the night both officers were shot. Rest in peace gentlemen, you will always be remembered.

PO Buczek was one of the reasons that I became a police officer. Although I did not know him personally his death affected me deeply. I am no longer with the NYPD but I always keep him and PO Hoban in my thoughts on this tragic anniversary.

To the Buczek family-Mike will never be forgotten. I worked in the two-four pct. and would see Mike when he and his radio car partner, Joe would go to the "Boro" which was housed in the two-four. Mike was never too busy to waive or say "hi". He always had a smile on his face. I worked with Joe in Narcotics and we spoke of Mike and what a truly cops cop he was! His memory lives on. I will never forget that day when we lost Mike and Chris(Hoban). May God watch over your family and know that Michael smiles at us each day!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To the family and friends of Officer Michael Buczek and his fellow officers with the New York City Police Department, and most especially to Officer Buczek:

It has been seventeen years since your brutal murder. It has only been in recent years that some measure of justice was attained for you and your loved ones. The fact that arrests were made so many years later shows that those who cared about you were relentless in their quest for justice.

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss suffered when Officer Buzcek was tragically killed.

May you continue to be comforted by the caring and support of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. Officer Buzcek's valor and dedication is not forgotten.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Michael gave to his community and the citizens of Mew York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 18, 1988.

This was the 2nd year as a teacher at PS 48 that I've attended Officer Buczek Memorial Service. It was very touching and the message Officer Buczek's family communicated through their actions in the community had an incredible impact on our students.
Thank you - Adam Case

On the anniversary of your death, I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

A hero never dies....

Rest in peace, hero.

October 18, 2004

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, October 18, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Michael Buczek who died on this date 15 years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Buczek's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
