My Dearest Family and Friends

Somethings I'd like to say but first of all to let you know that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with Our Lord above. where there's no more tears or sadness just eternal Love. Please don't be unhappy because I'm out of sight, remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.

The Day I had to leave you when my Life on earth was through God picked me up and hugged me and He said I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, You were missed while you were gone. As for your Dearest Family they'll be here later on.
I need you here so badly as part of my big plan. Theres so much we have to do to help our moral man.
Then God gave me a list of things that He wished for me to do, and foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you.
I'll be beside you everyday and through out the years, And when your sad. I'm standing there to wipe away your tears.
When You lie in bed at night the day's chores put to flight God and I are close you in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on Earth and all the loving years, because your only human they are bound to bring you tears.

Please don't be afraid to cry, it does releive the pain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned, But if I were to tell you You wouldn't understand. One thing is for certain, though my life on Earth is over I'm closer to you now than I ever was before.

To My many Friends, Trust God knows what is best.I'm still not far away from you I'm just beyond the crest.

So, If you can help somebody who is in sorrow or in pain, then you can say to God at night my day was not in vain.
And now I am contented that with my life. it was worth while,Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
If you meet somebody who is down and feeling low just lend a hand and pick him up as on your way you go.
When Your walking down the street and you've got me on your mind just know Im walking in your footstep only a half a step behind.
And if you feel a gentel breeze or wind upon your face thats me just giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace.
I will always love you from the land way up above We'll be in touch again soon
PS God sends his Love.

You are missed JIMMIE. REST IN GOD'S PRESENCE....

Hello Jimmie, I can't believe it been over 17 years. One never forgets a friend, gentleman and true leader such as you. Oftrn when I'm down I can hear you say so loud and proud "What aLovely day to be a soldier!" I miss you much and some day we will see each other again. In the mean time thank you for being my friend.

Officer Haynes, I have previously left a reflection but on this 17th anniversary of your murder I just have to say that I find it striking that two Housing Authority Police agencies (neither of which still exist) lost a member within 4 years of each other, you in 1991 and Corporal Michael Carrithers in 1995.

God Bless you both.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I will never forget that night at 4525 S. Federal. That day of Jimmie's untimely death. There was more gun fire than unusal. We had to run to the car as the shift ended. Little did I know my relief would be ending his watch that fateful day. Rest In Peace

Jimmie,
I remember that fateful night like it was yesterday. I was just out of the academy for three short months and was baptized into the violent world of Chicago's most notorious housing projects. At that time we were still on 30 day rotations. I had just finished working days and went home so I could double back for my first midnight shift. I remember pulling up to the building just as you and other officers were exiting and then you fell to the ground....its a tragic scene that I will never forget as long as I live. You were an inspiration to me and your memory will live forever.
May you rest in peace.

Dear Jimmy,
Its important for you to know while you're in heaven that many of us,myself included, have never forgotten your sacrifice and what it meant to me and the future police officers of the CHA. Many of us have gone our separate ways but I never forget.

Jimmie,

Although we did not have the opportunity to work together, we did do the job together. I was a mere “rookie” with the CHA Police when you left us in 1991. You were one of the first heros of the department. You broke the ground for the individuals who followed you along a career path most would never accept. You and the other officers of the CHA Police Department never had the luxury of a “routine” day and it was no “routine” event that took your life. I continued my employment with the department until 1999 and never forgot about you or the events surrounding your death. It is surprising to me that there were not more of us that met you in Heaven. The job we swore to uphold was a dangerous one and had the ability to take us in the blink of an eye. I am sure that you watched over all of us Jimmie. You kept us safe and for the most part sane in a violent and crazy world. Although the department has vanished and most of us have retired from law enforcement. I still have a sense that your with us, watching over us and guiding us. After all the world is still a violent and crazy place. May you rest in peace my brother in blue.

Love and respect

Jimmie-
Remember me? We were on Army recruiting duty together. I remember hearing that you left the Army and became a police officer. I also remember hearing that you were killed in the line of duty. You were a good friend, a great soldier, and I will always remember our fun together, 'beating the bushes'. Rest in Peace.

Officer Haynes, you have the distinction of being the only known officer of the Chicago Housing Authority to die in the line of duty and you died at the hands of an unknown coward. I hope, pray and believe that person found true justice for his/her crime. I know you have never left the sides of your family, but on this 15th anniversary of your murder, they only know that they cannot touch you or see you or hear you. Your family and the City of Chicago were robbed of you.

God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.

I was in the first class of the CHA Police Dept and a friend of Jimmie. I was on duty the day Jimmie was killed in the line of duty. We served as a police officer in the most dangerous area of the City of Chicago. My stomach turned up side down when I heard over the radio OFFICER Down. Jimmie was a great friend and one that I have never forgotten. Even thought the CHA Polioce does not exist any longer, but Jimmie spirits lives in all of us who served proudly at the CHA Police Dept. Jimmie your sacrifice will never be forgotten. God Bless you!
