Although it’s changed somewhat since I grew up there, Springfield, MO is a unique city. It’s a town where a smile and a wave to a stranger is customary, not an exception. It’s a place where law enforcement is valued and held to a high standard. It’s a place that is safe thanks to Officers like Chris Walsh who embody COMMUNITY ORIENTED Policing. It’s the kind of city where the first five minutes of any news broadcast isn’t filled w/ crime reports and horrific news. It’s a great place to live. The city is grieving and so am I. Although everyone reading this knows incidents like this one can happen anywhere to a city of any size, it shouldn’t happen in Spfld or anywhere else. My thoughts & prayers are with the Spfld family.

I don't even know where to start...I keep reading the articles involving the shooting over and over, and it breaks my heart every time. I know that the City of Springfield is so very fortunate to have officers of the highest caliber and professionalism. I pray that Officer Walsh's wife and child, fellow officers, and the community finds peace in knowing you passed away doing what you loved...the dream job for those who understand. "Blessed are the Peacemakers"...
Officer Walsh, my son and I will continue to pray for your family, and your brothers and sisters of Springfield PD.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
