Reflections for Police Officer Brian R. Abbondandelo

They say time heals old wounds. I can't believe it's been 8 years. When the anniversary of members passing those wounds open again. We remember the good times and the stories that are still being told. Today, we till the good times and remember you. R.I.P. Brother. May God comfort and hold your family in his hands.

I'm a bit floored. I was just looking at those who perished because of the attacks, and I came across Brian's picture. It stopped me in my tracks. The last time I saw him he was in the upstairs locker room of Midtown South (NYPD), probably 1994. I have great memories of his quick, old-soul humor at roll calls, and I looked up to him as an officer. I remember him at his locker saying, "I bet you don't know my first name...", because everyone just called him "Abby". I had no idea he went to NCPD, I had no idea he was sick, or that he died. Sad day. RIP Brother.

Abby, you were my friend, coworker and teammate. I was lucky to look over and see you standing on the blue line next to me. You had the Hardest slap shot I ever saw and was glad you never hit me with it. Your smile would light up the room and was brightest when you spoke of your family.
May God bless you and your family, you will never be forgotten.

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation’s brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]

Brian,
I miss your smile at every call I meet you at. You always made me laugh and I’ll always remember when we all thought it was a great idea to go on my boat after our last midnight. Rest easy, miss you.
