To Officer Roman's family.
As Mayor Bloomberg stod over my brother John's coffin and said to me " This City Owes Your Family a Debt of Gratitude That Can Never Be Repaid ."
My family owes Joe Roman a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.
You searched for our human remains that allowed us to take the next step.
Joe Roman will never be forgotten by the families of the 23 NYPD murdered on September 11, 2001.

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation’s brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]

One of the many amazing men and women who gave so selflessly and heroically that day and the many days that followed. Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

Rest in peace, my brother. Thank you for your service and sacrifice at the sites. Many of us have gone to join you and, some are still here. With major and minor medical issues, we would all have done it again. That is what we do. Blessings and strength to your daughters who will keep your memory alive by just mentioning your name. Until all of us who were there meet.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Joseph was died in the line of duty as one of our 9/11 heroes.

To the Roman family, fellow officers, and all who call Joseph, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I know that that you will receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Detective Roman gave to his community and the citizens of New York and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 28, 2019.
