Reflections for Detective Garth Langemeade Ward
Officer Ward,
On today, the 50th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served during World War II. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My father, Ture E. Nordin, LAPD Policeman, University Division and Parker Center Complaint Board, was a friend of Garth.
Me as a young boy met Garth and several officers of the University Division.
To show me the "straight and narrow" I was put through booking, had my prints rolled, then into a holding cell. It felt like forever, it was, everyone stepped out for a smoke!
Our house was in the 77th area, 62nd and Wilton Pl.
Dad and his partner would stop for dinner (7), I sat on the front steps, listening for 3L41.
Garth was a good man, always a smile for me, and a "Hi Little Swede".

To fully pay tribute to the heroes of today, we first need to remember those who came before them and who died in the line of duty for it is those heroes who were the standard bearers.Your heroism and service is honored today, the 45th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Rest In Peace

Policeman Ward - Ten years in a coma before you finally fell in the line of duty? I can only imagine the drain on your family, your partners and their eventually dashed hopes. May they be comforted, always.
My salute to not only you, but also to Mark Masek for researching your story and notifying ODMP.
Thank you for your service to the City of Los Angeles and to the people of the state of California. You served our nation, too, during your youth in WWII. We owe you so much. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.
