Of course all law enforcement officers are important to me but as I have said in the past, California's Highway Patrol Officers are on California's Interstates and highways. As a CalTrans Equipment Operator that worked the same territories, we find ourselves hand in hand with these brave men and women. As you probably know, CalTrans employees aren't real popular with a lot of the people driving on our States highways. At least three times while doing various tasks in the Eureka Crescent City area, I was harressed and threatened by irate drivers. In each case, a CHP Officer appeared to my relief and each time, the officer made it very clear that any attack on me was an attack on him and that they could be spending time in jail or worse and that their crimes were serious. We respect each other, we support each other and those officers make each and every CalTrans worker more secure and safer in everyway. They are truly our big brothers and sisters. Way too many of them are killed and injured each year. We honor them when they fall as they honor the 200 CalTrans employees that have been killed in the line of duty since 1930.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Andre was killed in the line of duty.
To the Moye family, fellow officers, and all who call Andre beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I hope that that you receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service California Highway Patrol Officer Moye gave to his community and the citizens of California and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 12, 2019.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:
“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”
I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.
Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.
I have lifted your family to God every morning for over eight years. I pray that Andre's life and death will bring glory to His name.
Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.
Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.
