“Our stories have already been written only we are not the author. We have no way of knowing how our final chapter will end. We handle our storylines the best way we know how as they present themselves. All we can do is try to leave our marks along the way....our legacy.” (By Nyki Mack)

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the North County Police Cooperative. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

I wrote this in 2011 when a friend and officer was murdered and it still fits today. God Bless my fallen brothers and sisters...

" I was a Police Officer "

When I left for work today, I hugged my daughter, told her I loved her and to be good. She said " I love you daddy, see you tonight". She will not. This was the last goodbye, but neither knew.

Today, my daughter cries but, I can not comfort her. I can not hug her, touch her, set next to or tell her everything will be ok. I will never tuck her in to bed, tell her a joke or protect her from harm. I will not drive her to school. I will never drive up in a patrol car, get out and hug her, embarrassing her in front of all her friends. The shoulder she has leaned on and cried on, is gone.

There will be no more goofy pictures of us, no camping trips, fishing trips, Disneyland, roller coasters or log rides.

She will have report cards that I will never see, sports games I will never watch and I will never get to tell her how proud I am to be her DAD. She will graduate alone, get married without me and have grand children, that I will never know, get to hug or bounce on my knee.

The federal politicians are golfing or who knows, without a thought for me or my daughter and they have no care. The local politicians, The Sheriff / Chief will USE her and I. They will speak at my funeral, say big things and say how brave I was. They will tell her she is not alone and THEY will be there for her. THEY LIE! But she does not want them, she wants her Dad.

But she has a folded flag to take my place, to hang on a wall or to put under her pillow, to wipe away her tears. She can hug that flag but, it does not hug back.

She is ALONE!
