I am so sorry for the loss of this officer. I only knew him from Live PD. Having grown up in a small town and having police officers as family friends and a brother with 50 years as a volunteer firefighter I have always prayed for protection and safety for all first responders. He, his fellow officers, family and friends will be in my prayers for comfort, peace and strength. God Bless all of you.

Lord God, our hearts and prayers go out to the Mission, Texas Police Department and for the family, friends, and colleagues of Corporal Jose Espericueta, of the Mission Police Department, who was shot and killed in the Line-of-Duty on Thursday, June 20, 2019. Depart, dear Brother-in-Blue, out of this world into the arms of the Father who created you, into the arms of the Son who redeemed you, and into the arms of the Spirit who made you whole. “You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith” [2Timothy 4:7]. Now rest easy in peace. We will take it from here. Amen.

Scripture teaches us that:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9]

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13]

A hero has been taken with zero regard for his dedication to keep his community safe while his family risk the nucleus of their home each and every day. Understanding the risks that come with putting on a uniform specifically to serve others is a feeling few understand but is often taken for granted by most. Thank you, my brother, for your bravery and dedication to keep everyone safe. You sacrifice is truly recognized as the work of a hero. Godspeed and a sweet welcome to the Kingdom of Heaven.

The silence, now, is deafening
where once his laughter fell.

The beat is empty of the one
who knew its streets so well.

The squad room has a vacancy
no one else can occupy.

And so we stand, salute and grieve
again we say 'good-bye'.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
