Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Staff Sergeant Charles Lane Huskey

Huskey, it’s been awhile! I had to come here to tell you first. Why here? I just don’t have any other connections, yet.

Hopefully just one more “hurry up and wait” before you’re memorialized on The Wall where you’ve belonged since 05/1987. It’s all good, though. Good things come to those who wait.

Still no guarantees, but we’re almost on the final leg of the journey. Rest easy, brother. I look forward to the things that are to come to you and your two troops.

Worked with Huskey at SJAFB, NC. EArly 80s. He was very helpful to us lower ranking airmen. Always gave us breaks.

SSgt Huskey was a solid troop... competent, no-nonsence and well-respected, both by the men who served on his team as well as by his supervisors. In my former role as a Scheduler/Dispatcher for Huskey and his fellow teams, he was a man who could be counted on doing the right things when circumstances didn't always go 'according to plan'. When Huskey and his team drew their weapons from the armory that day and headed to the chopper dock, it was another hard day's work they had ahead of them. But every person on his team knew they had a guy they could trust in-charge. That tragic accident was a nightmare for all in the unit. People like Huskey, Heitkamp, Holmes, and Huguley just couldn't be replaced. Thankfully Huguley survived her injuries and the traumatic horrors of that crash. To this very day, all our surviving Veteran members observe a moment of silence on 29 May 1986, in memory of those who gave the last full measure in the service of our country that day.

Huskey, I have very fond memories of our time when we served together at Seymour Johnson, AFB, 4th Security Police Squadron. Back then we were just Airmen on our first enlistments. You were another country boy, one that stands out in the memories of many of our old compatriots. Above all you were a great guy; one of the best I ever had the honor of meeting. You were a security troop who knew his job well and stayed composed, no matter the situation. It was truly my honor to have known and worked with you. Rest In Peace, brother. We all will see you at the final guardmount on the other side!
