I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

We are praying for Matt's wife and family. We are so sorry to hear this news but we know that Matt loved the Lord and he is home with the God he served so faithfully. Our family has two currently serving in law enforcement, our son-in-law is a Virginia State Police Officer and our grandson is a police officer in Texas. A cousin is retired from the Durham Police Department.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Thank-you, Trooper Gatti, for your dedication, your service, and your sacrifice. My heart and prayers are with your family. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” You are a hero. Yourcourage kept you at work to keep us safe, to keep our roads safe, knowing all the while that not only the malicious, but also the thoughtless, actions of others could cost you your life. Thank-you.
