As my fellow Maine blue pins are aware, the MCJA Basic Law Enforcement Training Program generally hosts 40+ police cadets for 18 solid weeks, two times a year. During those 18 weeks, day in and day out, cadets spend every waking moment together, as a group, a unit, a team, a tight-knit family. We get to know one another through the good, the bad and the indifferent. Those 18 weeks build us, mold us AND most importantly make us FAMILY. Upon graduation, becoming a “blue pin”, we join an even bigger family, the Thin-Blue-Line. Today, the Thin Blue Line lost a brother. Ben’s family (Lord, be with them) lost even more, a son, a brother, a husband and for six-month old Everett, a Dad. Trooper Detective Ben Campbell paid the ultimate sacrifice (today) while he was protecting a citizen who needed help. Just as we were trained and sworn to do. As a fellow academy classmate of Ben’s, I’ll never forget his ‘smiley’ positive personality and especially how easy it was to make him blush. He was undoubtedly a person that would’ve given you the shirt off his back. He will always be remembered as a great person, cop, friend and positive person with a contagious smile. Detective Campbell, thank you for your service. We’ll take it from here. May the Lord be with you. Keep watch over your loved ones and all those you’ve impacted throughout your life. - “Gudaitis”, MCJA 22nd BLETP, Class Secretary

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Maine State Police. New England and our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Hits close to home, the same thing almost happened to me many years ago while sitting on the side of the road conducting highway interdiction, but the tires, luckily barely flew right over my unit, but I really thought it was it for me as I saw them coming. R.I.P. brother.
