The mere fact that you came off your follow up to handle the radio call shows what kind of cop you were. You could’ve said “it’s a patrol call, they can handle it”, but you did the right thing and responded, not all detectives would do that. Suit or not we are still the police, thank you for doing the right thing. If it wasn’t for your quick response this guy could’ve fled out of the store before he was apprehended. The circumstances are tragic, but your death will not be in vain, you are a hero.

To the other responding officers, remember that this perps actions caused these chain of events, may god be with you and help you get through this. May god be with all the families of the other officers involved and to the Simonsen family. May god continue to look over the entire NYPD and all law enforcement.

I also saw that a private citizen left a reflection thanking Det. Simonsen for physically apprehending a perp in the past who broke into his house, once again showing what kind of cop he was.
