Officer D. Romrell

He came and saw
He fought with god
Backing his every move
Born with a loving heart
His motto is tried and true

Known as a Devil Dog
And other names as well
He fought alongside his brothers
In a desert hot as hell

He returned and found a love
He nurtured and adored
They got married and took their time
Before a child came to this world

He tried his luck as a PI
And naturally excelled
Yearning to find something more
A cop is what he unshelled

A lot of life lived
In a short time
At thirty one he came and saw
And fought away the crime

His name was David Romrell
His life was full of love
He fought and died for others
Including his two loves

He will always be remembered
As the hero that he was
Not one but two he leaves behind
Fighting for the cause

Thank you for you courage
And your sacrifice
Protecting many others
Including your son and wife

Rest in piece my friend
For your fight is over
Your wife and son are in good hands
So you can now crossover

"It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived."
Vivian Eney Cross, Survivor

There are many sayings that embolden me to put on my uniform each day after losing a brother/sister. This one rings truest, because our final stand is just one moment along our journey of service. Thank you to all who are honoring this Officer's many accomplishments, and my deepest gratitude goes out to the men and women who fought alongside him on this fateful day.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
