Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Mark V. Stasyuk

It's been six years since Mark is no longer with us. Remembering his short life, I wish that every father had a son like my Mark.

Deputy Stasyuk,
I remember you as a new deputy arriving on duty at the Sacramento County Main Jail. I worked at the front counter. You always had a large group of your fellow brothers surrounding you as you entered the building.
Thank you for your dedicated service to your community.
Your partner on that fateful day was Julie, who used to work BDays shift at the jail with me.
Rest in Peace my brother in blue. May Gods angels continue to comfort you and your loved ones.

Just met Mark’s Dad at the Donner Summit rest stop. He had noticed my BLUE LIVES MATTER bumper sticker on my car. He was telling me about his son Mark. He was wearing a BLUE LIVES MATTER angel wings necklace & he shared Mark’s pic with his EOW date of 9/17/18

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Mark was killed in the line of duty.

To the Stasyuk family, fellow officers, and all who call Mark beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I hope that as the first anniversary of your loved one's untimely death approaches, that you continue to receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Stasyuk gave to his community and the citizens of California and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 17, 2018.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

City of Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee WI

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over seven years. I pray that Mark's life and death will bring glory to God.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Officer Stasyuk sounded like what all police officers should aspire to be - a caring, thoughtful, community involved officer. It is so sad that he is gone - we need more like him - he touched so many people - what a good, good man. RIP Officer, you will be missed dearly.
