Reflections for Senior Corporal Earl James "Jamie" Givens, III
I want to thank all those who supported our family during the great and unexpected loss of my older brother, Dallas Sr Cpl Jamie Givens. There were so many people at the funeral and so many sent condolences in card and message, plus many worldwide attended his service in Plano TX and Washington OK. We were secluded during so many activities and missed other activities; not getting to visit with the people who loved my brother so much! I know Luke his Horse had a lot of attention over the years and begged businesses for apple slices and petting. Both of his horses were special to him. My brother trained me to be a police officer as well, skills in staying alive, and staying alert. To this day, people say they never heard me approach, or where did you come from...it is second nature. He loved his Greek Friends who owned the Char-Bar and we never were able to reach them after his death. There are so many people who loved Jamie as a person and as an officer. Thank you all for your love you gave him. He told us of so many people on both sides of the law and how he tried to help them all; open their eyes; see the light and that there were options and they could turn around and do right. Others he spent time with on motors, traveling, visiting, and even teaching kids a better-way of communicating...in his own way. We both helped kids play together nicely, soccer, basketball, anything. There were so many attending his funeral from all over the USA, CAN, MEX, and over the pond. We were told in the planning stage, there will not be many people who show up...well they ended up with the largest service ever for one officer killed in the line of duty. Over 5000 inside and many more outside as far as the eye could see. He was respected by the public, by his friends, and for those he called his friends--you know who you are...and there are thousands. Jamie was a Field Training Officer, Mounted Patrol, Motors, SWAT, and probably one of the best public relations person you could meet. Thirty-two years and killed after preparing for retirement with his wife Cindy. Both were to retire in 2018 and made plans for moving and more traveling. Thank you from our entire family. His wife Cindy, Mom Delores, sons, and me--his SweetPea Sister.

Hard to believe its been four years since Dean called that horrible day, and told me you were gone. Just wanted tell you, your not forgotten and your spirit lives on brother. As a matter of fact, just the other day, I was telling some guys at my new department a funny story about you. Until we meet again in the Halls of Valhalla.

James “Jamie” Earl Givens. “A TRUE HERO” for the awesome “DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT”. I still owe Jamie a case of Budweiser, after he hammered me over Pizza in my home when The Celtics won...going away. I’ll repay that case of “Near Beer ” since alcohol was not prohibited in our Baptist up-bring. RIP Jamie...the best human ever to be graced in our times!

I pray that everyone will find comfort in Revelation 21:4, where it says "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we can see all of our loved ones again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.
