Rest in peace brother, we have the watch now. Thank you for your service, you will not be forgotten. God bless the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Gomm during this time of tragic and senseless loss. We say law enforcement is a thankless job but corrections, IMHO, is even worse. The folks they are dealing with are already incarcerated so they have nothing to lose by attacking and injuring/killing a corrections officer. Such a sad day for this officer's family.

A Prayer for Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm:
Heavenly Father, I boldly and humbly come before Your throne in sincere faithful and fervent prayer as we remember in this moment our Brother-in-Blue, Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm, of the Minnesota Department of Corrections, who sacrificed his life in the Line-of-Duty. We recall with gratitude and respect all that he stood for in this life. Help us to live in the companionship of his spirit. May we be kind to the family, friends, and colleagues he loved; devoted to the state in which he served; and loyal to the causes which he championed in law enforcement. For the Scripture says: God blesses those who work for peace for they will be called the children of God ; there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends; I [Jesus] assure you, today you will be with me in Paradise, and; God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Thus, in our lifetime, may Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm live on, to our great comfort, to the betterment of Your creation, and to the furthering of Your most Holy Will. Amen.

A corrections officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
