A Prayer for Sergeant Mark J. Baserman:
Lord God, I boldly and humbly come before Your throne in sincere faithful and fervent prayer as we remember in this moment our Brother-in-Blue, Sergeant Mark J. Baserman, of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, who sacrificed his life in the Line-of-Duty. We recall with gratitude and respect all that he stood for in this life. Help us to live in the companionship of his spirit. May we be kind to the family, friends, and colleagues he loved; devoted to the state in which he served; and loyal to the causes which he championed in law enforcement. For Scripture says: God blesses those who work for peace for they will be called the children of God ; there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends; I [Jesus] assure you, today you will be with me in Paradise, and; God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Thus, in our life, may Sergeant Mark J. Baserman live on, to our great comfort, to the betterment of Your creation, and to the furthering of Your most Holy Will. Amen.

It is a sad time for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections as one its officers got beaten to death by an inmate who was serving a life sentence for first degree murder. It is sure a sad time not only for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections but the family of Sergeant Mark Baserman and the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as they too mourn the loss of this brave corrections officer who got beaten to death by an inmate who confiscated a towel from his cell at the prison he was working at. He will be missed by all who enjoyed working with him and spending time with him when he was not on duty.
