On behalf of Point 27, I would like to offer condolences for Commander Paul R. Bauer. Please know we are eternally grateful for Paul’s service and his ultimate sacrifice.

To honor Commander Bauer, Point 27 sent 27 Thin Blue Line Dog Tag Necklaces, engraved with “Blessed are the Peacemakers for they will be called children of God” Matthew 5:9, to the Chief, Chicago Police Department, for Paul’s fellow officers. Point 27 sent Folded Flag Necklaces engraved with “Greater Love has no one than this; than to lay down one’s life for one’s friend” John 15:13 for Officer Bauer’s family members.

Point 27 is a Non-Profit Organization with a mission to strengthen and encourage members of the Armed Forces, First Responders, and their families, by sharing scripture on Dog Tags and Jewelry called Shields of Strength.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Commander Paul R. Bauer and the extended law enforcement family of the Chicago Police Department, Illinois.

End of Watch Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your memory.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

As I travelled North on Lakeshore Drive from 55 this evening en-route to Loyola to take my daughter back to school, I was reminded that the city Commander Bauer gave his life to serve and protect is truly one of this nations greatest. A sea of blue from Soldier Field to well past Navy Pier. It is obvious the city you served has not, and will not forget you Sir.
Neither will your fellow Law Enforcement Officers. Rest in Peace Commander.

RIP Commander Bauer, what a great loss to the CPD, and all the lives you touched. As a Chicago Police member, I would like to thank all of the Law Enforcement both locally and across our nation. The outpouring of support was incredible. Also to the community, volunteers and media. It truly makes me proud to be one of the brothers in blue. Stay safe.

I came in contact with you through a phone call transfer to 018 district and at OEMC. You were a nice person and seemed like a well mannered individual that just wanted to help people. You could tell you were passionate about the police department. I'm saddened that your life was taken in such a way but you have blessed many people and we will forever be grateful. Thank you for your service and for keeping Chicago safe.
