"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Rest in Peace, Deputy McCartney. Thank you for the risk you took every day to protect the public and uphold your Oath. To his family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Nothing can, or will, bring back your husband, or your father, or your son. Know that we in the law enforcement community (and supporters) will be there to help you. I am quite sure his coworkers and friends will be there for you. Although nothing will bring him back, please remember that he served his life honorably and will be there with you, in spirit. I am a father of soon to be four children. I can't imagine the pain my own family would go through in this situation. But I know my department, friends, and coworkers would be there for them. Know this great man is with God, having done God's work his entire career. He stands at the right hand of God.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your memory.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.
