Reflections for Patrol Officer Jaimie Joseph Alan Cox

Five years ago today I woke up to the phone call that changed life as I ever knew it. It was the call to tell me you had been critically wounded and I needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible. They didn’t tell me you were already gone until I got there, and I hit my knees. Your loss impacted not only our family and friends, but your agency, surrounding agencies, your entire community and beyond.

Five years later there hasn’t been a single day where most of my thoughts involve you and that day. Five years later, we still hear stories of the positive impact you had on so many people, even people you only met once, or sometimes never really met at all, but somehow they remember you.
We’ve created two organizations that continue propelling your service forward, Jaim. The Jaimie Cox Foundation and BLUE 815 take care of so many people that you would have wanted us to be sure are taken care of: first responders, veterans, and children in need. Your service continues as you keep watch over us above.
Thank you for being you. I miss you every single day.
Love ya, cuz.

On today, the 5th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the ILARNG and U.S. Army-especially in Afghanistan. John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jaimie was killed.

To the Cox family, fellow officers, and all who call Jaimie beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Fox gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 5th, 2017

I have gotten the honor of knowing you through countless stories. Everyone one of them good, every one of them makes me smile. Not because those are the types of stories people choose to tell but because they are the only stories - stories of goodness. Then, this week I had the honor of meeting your closest friends. I understood why they were, what amazing people. I know that the pain and sorrow is left here on earth and that you are okay. So I pray for these people, every day. Caitlin has become a light in my life and I am blessed to know her. I will stand by her side for as long as she needs me, and then one more day. Rest easy, hero.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Police Officer Jaimie Cox and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Cox, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Cox is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A difficult time for our community. I volunteered at the visitation as part of the current Citizen's Police Academy. The community outpouring was wonderful. Now my nephew graduates training and will be on the streets as a Rockford policeman.
God's peace to the family of Officer Cox. And God's peace to my nephew.
