My paternal grandmother's family is from this area. I work in a 9-1-1 center, my father is a retired corrections deputy, and 2 cousin s on that side of the family are current/former deputies as well. Dad and I will be in that area next week; it makes me so sad but we will be sure to pay our respects while there.

Thank you, Sir, for your service. We may never know the full value of your service, the crimes that were not committed because of your actions, and the actions of your fellow officers. Although your end was tragic, your life was not wasted. Rest in peace.

So very sorry. I lost my brother 12 years ago when he responded to a domestic dispute. The best advice I can give you Is allow yourself to grieve. No 2 people grieve the same. Keep yourself busy. Continue to love, live and find a reason every day to laugh and be gratifying for something. It's very hard but day after day it will help you to heal. God bless the family and friends of brave deputy Derr!
