Our prayers to his family, the department, and the community. May he rest in peace. Thank you for your service sir and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

May the family of SA Walter and his fellow VSP find solace in the Hope of the Resurrection. The memory of a life well lived is a tribute to the perseverance of a LEO, father, husband, and citizen. He has left a legacy for all of us to attempt to attain by helping others in our communities. We, as supporters of Henrico County Division of Police, feel a bond for all law enforcement, and mourn the loss of any LEO who is senselessly taken from the community and his/her family due to the act of one who respects neither law enforcement nor themselves.
God bless and keep safe all who put their lives on the line every shift.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
