I knew Mike Foley when was a little boy growing up in East Oakland. He attended St. Lawrence O'Toole school with my brother Dan Sullivan. Mike was my brother's closest friend in elementary school and we became acquainted with his father, Officer Lawrence Foley at OPD. Officer Foley used to regale us with stories of his experiences on the Oakland streets during the turbulent 1960s. As a young rookie in Concord, Mike would sometimes take my brother on patrol. Dan said that Mike, like his father, believed in proactive law enforcement - i.e., stop the
trouble before it starts.

I was sorrowed ot learn of Mike's untimely death and extend my sincere sympathy to his family. My brother, who lost touch, predeceased him three years ago at age 57. I will remember both as michevious little kids who
vexed the nuns but were beloved by those around them.
