This young man did what he believed was right. Oddly, I say this confidently, 100 years ago he gave his soul following community rules and regulations. After 100 years pass, by 2010 it would be illegal to take such rights from a public servant, who for GODS SAKE, WAS A BABY!

Deputy Etherington, a vile and despicable act was committed upon you, just for doing your duty and those who were responsible were correctly brought to justice. Whether or not they truly paid for their crimes is not mentioned here, but you died a hero, though that was no consolation for your parents. but you are remembered and honored. Your murderers may be remembered, but they deserve no honor.

God Bless you, Brother and may your eternal rest be ever peaceful.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 107th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. At seventeen, you must have been so scared that night.

Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Deputy Marshal Etherington should not have died that day. He concealed his age in order to be sworn in, and then he was murdered the same day, lynched by an angry mob for the performance of his duty.

His story was never fully told until recently, and then it was only told because of the hard work and countless hours of research of Captain Erik Mckee of the Newark Police Department.

Deputy Etherington will be remembered.
