Sheriff Ackerman was a true gentleman and a leader who was easy to follow. Through his dedication to training and his involvement in the state, it is impossible to count the number of lives he's had a positive impact on. He was always there for the cause. I'm honored to have called him a colleague and friend.

Sheriff Ackerman was a loyal and faithful servant to the citizens of Lea County. A brave and forward thinking leader in providing protection to ALL who reside or passed through Lea County. If you ever had the opportunity to speak with him, there was no doubt he was intently listening to every word, contemplating a solution to a problem or, offering encouragement. Steve was clearly on a mission to provide the best protective service to his supporters, and non-supports alike. He was undoubtedly a patriot and loved his country and community with all of his heart. He was a humble and thoughtful man with deep impact upon all of our lives here.
The night will be a little darker now that he is gone. Steve, YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED! "Blessed are the Peace Makers"
