People die every day and the world goes on like nothing happened. But when it’s a person you love, you think everyone should stop and take notice. That they ought to cry and light candles and tell you that you’re not alone.”
― Kristina McMorris, Letters From Home
To everyone left behind by Jose Gilbert Vega. I want to tell you. You are not alone. I feel your pain. I'm not an officer, I'm not an american, but a human life has been lost. A life that cared for others, that protected others and in the end gave her life so that others could live. That kind of sacrifice eccoes around the world and have now reached me. I offer my deepest sympathies and respect for him and his fellow officer. May they rest in piece. Sincerely Rune

Avenue of the Fallen
Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

My condolences to the family of Police Officer Jose Gilbert Vega. Losing a loved one is difficult. Please take comfort in Jesus words found at John 5:28,29 where he said that there would be a resurrection. Just think of the time when you will see your loved ones again, in peaceful conditions, here on earth.

My heart is ripped out. I am sorry you made this ultimate sacrifice. I've been around LEOs since birth and have been to many LEO funerals, all murdered but two. For me to say "Thank you for your service and sacrifice" is not enough. If I could trade my life for yours, I would. I will not allow you to be forgotten, my hero. "Until Valhalla." God has a special place for His heroes.

You were my heroes when I was a kid; you were the guys that waved at us as we waved at you. We knew we could go to you and you'd be there to keep us safe. Now I am old but you are my heroes still because I know you are there to protect me and always will.

Rest in peace Officers Zerebny and Vega. You made the ultimate sacrifice to keep your community safe. No one can ever say enough to thank you and your family for your service.
May God bless and keep your family, friends and co-workers in this very difficult time. You served with honor while on this earth. May your family and friends know that you are now patrolling the streets of heaven along side LASD Sgt. Steve Owen (EOW: October 5, 2016) and my very good friend Officer Jonathan "JD" Deguzman (San Diego Police Dept. EOW: July 28, 2016). God couldn't be safer or in better hands than he is right now.
You are heroes in every possible sense of the word. A cowards bullet may have cut your life short on earth but the power you possess as a true hero will live on and guide those who knew and loved you for the rest of their lives.
Rest easy now my sister and brother. We have the watch.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
