First and foremost I want to thank Sgt. Owen for his service and dedication not only to his community but also to his department and family. I never had the pleasure to meet Sgt Owen, but his legacy and reputation live on. He is a role model for young deputies and individuals who seek to obtain a career in law enforcement such as myself. Being in the academy and learning about procedures and training, has opened my eyes to what these brave men and women do on a daily bases. It has also taught me to appreciate everyone i encounter through the course of my training. It is my goal to one day be as great Sgt Owen and live up to the departments expectations and one day impact someone else's life the way Sgt Owen has.
To his family, I want to wish them the best and I am truly sorry for their loss. LASD Class 417 will be honoring him through the rest of our academy and we will not let his legacy be forgotten.
Rest easy sir

Sergeant Owen's death hit me hard though I did not know him, he was still my brother and I mourn for him, his family, and the department. It is so much easier to go to work having the assurance that if I die today I will be with my Lord in heaven. Evil cannot win and the line will hold strong as we have another angel backing the line. Knowing Sergeant Owen went home to be with the Lord gives me much comfort and I can celebrate his exemplary career and life. I pray the Lord holds tight to Sergeant Owen's family and brings them comfort and calm during this time. Thank you Sergeant Owen for your service. Your life has inspired others including the several academy recruits who have posted here. What a blessing you are as a great role model for our new officers coming to work in a wicked world to maintain good order through positive dedication to fulfilling their sown duties as peace officers and making a positive impact in their communities. I will never forget your sacrifice. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." -Matthew 5:9 KJV With love and respect for you and your family. In Christ.

I did not have the opportunity to have known the late Sergeant Steve Owen. Word on the grapevine is that he was a amazing law enforcer, great person, and awesome partner. The best of the best, I can only imagine what a great pleasure it would have been to meet such a hero. I am a recruit in class 417 for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and I am honored to be part of his work family. I can only hope to pattern his career and hopefully come close to such a class act. May God bless his family and bless his soul and may he rest in peace.

Tears, shock, and complete silence went through the academy as we heard the radio traffic transpire during this tragic day. Hearing the Lancaster department have emotion in their voice while having to put commands showed how much they cared for SGT. Owen. I salute the Deputies that were apart of this and being able to get their job done. To SGT. Owen, your name will live on and I can only hope to represent LASD as well as you did. This has sparked a fire within us all in my class and thank you for your service. You will be missed!

SGT. Owen, I simply can't imagine what pain your death has caused all those lives you've affected throughout your short time here on earth. My only hope is that they can find solace in the fact that they will be reunited with you once more. Allthough the body fades, the spirit never does... just like the spirit, your impact here on earth never will never fade. Although I did not have the privilege to ever meet you, it seems during these somber times your actions, told through stories, shine a bright light onto who you were... not just as an officer but as a person. An outstanding officer, and even a better human being. The world did not just loose an officer but they lost a good person. The fight against evil continues on, and the world is proud and honored of you for helping lead the fight against it. I promise, like I'm sure many others do, to continue your fight. Rest easy for now fallen hero, for soon the light will emerge and rid the world of darkness.
May God Bless you and your family

John 15:13 states; " Greater love has no one than this: to lay his life down for his friends." Although I did not personally know Sgt. Owen or his family, his sacrifice has struck a nerve at the core of me. I cannot imagine the pain his family or that of his LASD family must be feeling. I hurt for all of them deeply and pray that they find a small measure of comfort in the knowledge that he was a wonderful man, who had a heart that over flowed with love for everyone he encountered. Every single word I have heard spoken about him has been so positive and wonderful. I pray for each and every one of you and offer my deepest condolences for the loss of Sgt. Owen.

My heart is ripped out. I am sorry you made this ultimate sacrifice. I've been around LEOs since birth and have been to many LEO funerals, all murdered but two. For me to say "Thank you for your service and sacrifice" is not enough. If I could trade my life for yours, I would. I will not allow you to be forgotten, my hero. "Until Valhalla."
