RIP Sgt. Gruenes, I had the pleasure working for you side by side. You are one of the most dedicated Officers to ever wear the badge. Many times since your that day, I have reflected on that time and still do in my retirement. I am sure you have seen from above I was injured myself, ending my career early. However never near the ultimate sacrifice you and your family has made to protect and serve the public. Knowing you during this time, I know you are ok in gods hands brother. Until the next time we meet, keep watch over your family, everyone else has the rest. I was happy to see that you have been finally honored in the manner you served, which was never a question in my mind from the day you left us all.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 13th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace
