The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

Officer Deguzman, thank you sir for your service. The manner in which you were murdered by your killer should reinforce just how dangerous the traffic stop can be. Hopefully all the offenders get what they deserve after they are apprehended. We will keep your family and Department in our thoughts. Please watch over us as we carry on.

My heart and prayers go out to Officer DeGuzman's family, friends, and co-workers. As a fellow officer I know he did his best every day and just wanted to return home after his shift and enjoy his family and life as we all do. My prayers go out to all those that wear the badge that they remain safe. You are all my sisters and brothers under the blue, hot, polyester. I would trade you for no one.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when JD was killed.

To the DeGuzman family, fellow officers, and all who call JD beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Deguzman gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 28, 2016.
