Rest in Peace, My Brother. Your courage, commitment, service and sacrifice shall not be forgotten.
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

I've been in law enforcement in San Diego for the past 39 years, have been to too many funerals, and this is still an emotional anguish.
SDPD is a wonderful organization and I know Officer DeGuzman's extended family will look after his wife and kids. Please include them all in your daily prayers and reflections. All behind the badge need it.
Both suspects are now in custody.

Officer DeGuzman's sacrifice will not be in vain. No officer dies in the line of duty without great honor. We, the citizens, are grateful to Officer DeGuzman, his wife, and his two children for the service of Johnathan. May God grant you peace and the knowledge that he served in that Thin Blue Line that protects us from the forces of evil. Thank You--Thank You--Thank You.

A Police Officer’s Prayer
Dear Lord, help me keep safe those who depend on me.
Keep my mind sharp and alert, my fingers quick and nimble.
Grant me good judgment and wisdom in every situation.
Give me good hearing to listen to those who need me.
Grant that I never forget how to do ten things at once, and do them all equally well.
Bless me with patience, Lord.
Patience to deal with the public, with my fellow officers, with the boss,
and with everyone who, at times, makes me want to grit my teeth and yell.
Give me nerves of steel that I may listen to a mother screaming for her child to live,
to the man shouting threats and armed with a gun,
or to an officer yelling for backup,
and not give way to panic.
Grant me empathy that I may help the battered wife, the rape victim,
the abused child, and any victim of a violent crime
and not cause them more pain then they already have.
God, give me the ability to learn what I need to know,
the grace to remember it quickly,
and the wisdom to use the knowledge properly.
Bless my family, Lord, for they will have to make sacrifices to shift work,
over-time, canceled plans and the times when I just can't take on one more thing.
Help them understand the missed ball games, school programs and dinners for two.
Lord, give me courage, courage to persevere when I feel undervalued,
unappreciated, overworked and unrecognized.
Courage to keep trying when I feel in my heart that all is lost.
Give me Hope when all seems hopeless.
Last of all, Lord, help me to never forget,
why I chose this job in the first place,
to never lose sight of what is important in the midst of all the stress.
Help me to remember that I make a difference,
however small it may seem some days, and that I matter.
Lord, I am Thy servant, grant me peace. Amen.
