Reflections for Police Officer II Jonathan Matias De Guzman

To Our Brother in Blue,

Although I did not personally know you, that day still haunts me. Seeing all the surrounding agencies respond Code 3 will always send chills down my skin. My beat was just around the corner from you as you lay on the pavement hurt, and I lived in the same community as you and your family.

You are gone but not forgotten.

There have been a lot of things as a citizen of this town that broke my heart. This was definitely one of them.

RIP JD. thank you for putting in the work with my dad. I remember the day we heard about your death. July 29 2016 started out normal for us, getting ready to go up to Mammoth, CA. Then, my dad got the call, we almost stayed home, but my dad knew you would want us to go. That was the first, and hopefully last time I see my dad cry. RIP-5721-EOW, 7/28/16

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I will always remember our last family gathering and how towards the end of the night all the LEO family members ended up at one table talking story about our experiences and trash to each other about our agencies. I wish someone got a picture of us at that table, if I knew that a few days later you would no longer be with us I definitely would have taken more pictures...rest easy

Almost been a year now. I remember hearing 11-99 for the first time on the radio last 3rd watch and hauling ass to the scene. It was amazing to see the citizens and everyone on our department come together for each other. You would be proud. RIP JD.

While working your scene, I had a citizen come up to me, get on their knees and sob in prayer over the senseless loss of your life my brother. The citizen had never met you, but the badge we wear in San Diego shines bright because of your example JD. RIP patrol dog, we got it from here.

I had the pleasure of knowing JD for most of his career and was a squad mate for several years. He was an excellent man, excellent friend and excellent officer. His loss is still fresh and will never be forgotten.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over five years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.
