You were needlessly taken by a madman. At least justice was swift and complete. How tragic in general that so much life was lost, but most tragic and infuriating was the loss of you and our two other Brothers.

So long as those who know and love you best keep you in their hearts and minds, you will never truly be gone.

Officer Gerald, God Bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace.

A Prayer for Police Officer Matthew Gerald:

Lord God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Police Officer Matthew Gerald, of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Police Department, was taken from us suddenly and violently in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the Cross. Heavenly Father, as we mourn the death of our Brother-in-Blue, Police Officer Matthew Gerald, show us the immense power of your goodness and strengthen our belief that he has entered into Your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
