Reflections for Police Officer Brent Alan Thompson
You were innocent, you and your 4 fellow officers had absolutely nothing to do with the shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota. The actions of a few bad apples cannot paint the image of all officers. Thank you for defending people and their rights.

End of Watch: Thursday, July 7, 2016
Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.
I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

"My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
Rest easy Brother Thompson, we have the watch...
”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:
“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”
Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.
I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over five years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.
Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

I grew up with Brent. Went to school together for a little while until he moved away. We even joined law enforcement together about the same time. It always hurts to lose a brother or sister in blue, but really hits home when it is someone you knew. Brent went out fighting, being a hero until his last moment. I shall always honor your sacrifice, my brother, and will never forget the example you have set forth. Much love to the Thompson family, and you already know you can call on me for anything, anytime.

Brent,
We talked so much about making this department and city a better place. You had such dedication to your job, your sweet Emily, and your kiddos & the rest of your family. Everyone at DART Police loved you, everyone in Corsicana loved you and now the world loves you. Your face was the first the world saw from 7-7-16, the entire world knows your face, your name and the dedication you had to family, friends, and this beautiful country.
It made me sick inside to know we lost you. Thursday night, I spent hours with you, with our officers, with your family, telling stories, remembering special times together with you one last time. We sat with you and chatted like you could laugh with us, it was unreal. I prayed with you, I prayed for you, I prayed for your family, for our injured officers, for those officers who worked that night, for the rest of DART police officers, and for the DPD officers lost & injured & mourning.
I have family obligations & I can't be there tomorrow. It hurts my heart and my soul that I cannot be there to see you in your Class A sharp and crisp, to see the hundreds of officers who will be there with you to celebrate the wonderful officer you were for so many years, to celebrate your life and accomplishments. Even though I am thousands of miles away, my heart has been with you since 9:46 on 7-7-16 when I heard the words that you were gone.
Brent, may God use you as he needs you, for he took you to Heaven to be one of the special guardian Angels.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.”

A portion of a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln, printed in the Boston Evening Transcript on November 25, 1864.
“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic (he) died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln”

My heartfelt sympathies go out to all of the grieving family members and friends of these brave men. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13. Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” John 11:25-27
