A Prayer for Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner:

Lord God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner, of the Patton Village, Texas Police Department was taken from us suddenly and violently in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the Cross. Heavenly Father, as we mourn the death of our Brother-in-Blue, Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner, show us the immense power of your goodness and strengthen our belief that he has entered into Your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

I hope the stooge who brought this pays justly for his actions. I'm very happy he had the decency to return to the scene. Maybe there's hope for him.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Stacey was killed.

To the Baumgartner family, fellow officers, and all who call Stacey beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

Prayers sent also for the young victim and that family.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sgt. Baumgartner gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 19, 2016.
