On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Zach died as a result of the injuries sustained in the 1915 collision .
To the Larnerd family, fellow officers, and all who call Zach beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I know that Chief Larnerd has suffered the almost incomprehensible tragedy of losing not only an officer under his command, but his young son, and I pray that he and his family have many to help them bear the unbearable.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Larnerd gave to his community and the citizens of Tennessee, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 15, 2016.

"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and Gainesboro Police Department. Our country is much less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
