I woke up this morning thinking of the horrible news. Mom and dad were so upset as was I. Smitty, Spider Monkey, Steve... you were an amazing man. You are truly missed. Chewie retired on the 3rd and it made me think where you would be on that list . Been two years since you caught that fatal bullet. You are sorely missed.

Those reading this from afar, Steve was a true warrior. Loved the righteous fight. Always ready to jump in the "ring" and get bloody.

When we were partnered in a plain clothes street crime enforcement team years back. I remember a family member asking if I worried about getting my ass kicked or hurt. I told them emphatically, No. I have "Smitty" with me!

To the Smith family, fellow officers, and all who call Steven beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
